I wanted to investigate for myself, but there was too many cops and border patrol vehicles driving around. The convent was also torn down and only the entrance was left so that people would stop trespassing. My second option was to listen to the story told by my neighbors who have been living in Mission their entire lives.
It is said that the mission's priest raped and kept some nuns chained at the nearby convent in La Lomita. The people say that they would bury the bodies of the children in the convent's grounds. Some illegal immigrants knew what the priests were doing, so they decided to put an end to it. They went to kill the three priests and were stealing the valuables as well. One priest escaped, but he died while searching for help.
Since then, the curious people from nearby cities have gone late at night to see shapes of men with robes. The convent was later turned into an asylum for the mentally ill, but soon shut down because of rumors of mistreatment towards the patients. The workers would see apparitions of the priests. Many who have gone late at night, say that you can hear babies crying and chains clanking.

I successfully broke in the asylum w 2 of my childhood friends. I wore high heels n ran down hill as soon as the alarm went off. It was protected by motion detectors. Idk it still had the power connected. This was about 15 yrs ago.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what happened to the basement. If they tore it down I doubt they'd go through the trouble of breaking down the basement as well..they probably just covered the stairs that go down into it with sheet metal or wood. Doubt they would pour any type of cement to seal it up or drop the debri from the demolition..
ReplyDeleteBack in '08 when I was in high school me and about 8 other friends decided to go on the night before Halloween. We got there around 10 pm. I parked right next to the old main gate under a tree. We all jumped the fence and ran from shadow to shadow all the way to the main doors of the place but they were chained locked. Luckily we spotted a metal ladder to the right of the doors that went straight up onto the second floors balcony. I think it was an old fire escape or something. Those doors weren't chained up or locked at all so we went right inside with only one of us who had an actual flash light and the rest of using our phone screens as light. When we went inside it literally looked like a horror movie scene maybe even creepier. There were a couple of old school hospital gurneys and equipment on the sides of the hallway and the walls were peeling off. We just walked straight avoiding to actually go into any of the rooms on the sides. The only room me and a couple others checked out was one door right about halfway down the corridor. It looked like small praying room. There were old benches and a podium at the end of the room with a statue of the Virgin Mary I believe but I couldn't really tell cause some parts were broken off including parts of her face which made it even more creepy. We all continued to the end of the corridor until we reached some wooden stairs that go down to the first floor and also continue to the basement. On the stairs In between the second and first floor there are restroom stalls with old tp still in them. We continued to the first floor all the way to the entrance. The first floor looked pretty much like the second so we made our way back to the stairs to go down into the basement which is where it got creepy af. Once we got to the last step of the stairs all you saw was the outer part of an old black gate without any doors. It was pitch black down there we would point our phones lights and a flashlight and the light would just end. Seemed like the darkness swallowed up the light. We made our way down the basements corridor. I had goosebumps the entire time I was down there just thinking why in the world would this place have prison style gates at the basements entrance. Either keeping people from getting in or keeping people from getting out. None of us dared to go into any of the rooms. Some were actually locked. We all walked step by step trying to scare one another. One of my friends actually started telling the story of the priest who had sex with the nuns when it was a sanctuary he also mentioned about how they would burry the infant corpses outside. But he also said that first the nuns would try to abort the fetuses so that the priest didn't find out. They would but the fetuses in the basements walls ...ironically right when he said that we were at the end of the basements corridor and we got to this very wide doorway to the left so we decided to go in and as soon as we did we allll smelled some sort of rotting dead dog smell coming from some huge pipes like about 3-4 ft. In diameter which is stranger for any building to have especially one over 100 hrs old. We followed the room which sort of wrapped around to the other side of the corridor but instead of an exit door to the corridor we saw stairs that led up to the outside of the building. we opened it and made our way up to head back to the truck but we saw someone coming our way he didn't see us though it was probably night security cause he was wearing a neon orange shirt. So we all quietly made our way back to the second floors balcony, waited for the man to go around to the other side of the building and quickly went down the metal ladder and booked it to the truck and took off.
